Work backward from your goal
The calculator subtracts what you have already saved from your target, then divides the remainder by the number of months. It also shows weekly and every-two-weeks equivalents. It does not include interest, investment returns, fees or a changing goal price.
Amounts round up to the next cent. The weekly and two-week figures use 52 and 26 periods per year; they are averages, not a schedule based on your exact pay dates. Every two weeks is different from twice a month. If you are paid twice monthly, divide the monthly amount by two.
| Time remaining | Monthly contribution |
|---|---|
| 6 months | $400 |
| 8 months | $300 |
| 12 months | $200 |
Check what fits your budget
Compare the proposed contribution with your income and bills before committing to a deadline. Include savings as a line in your budget, and check what is actually left after your other expenses.
If $400 a month does not fit, try a later deadline or a smaller target. A one-time contribution also changes the calculation: add it to savings so far only once the money is available and assigned to this goal.
Review the plan with Loaf
Use Loaf to review recent spending and upcoming bills before choosing a contribution. Through Loaf Connect, ask your AI app: “Show last month’s spending by category and the bills due next month. I’m considering saving $200 a month; help me identify the costs I should review.”
Check dates and amounts yourself, particularly annual renewals and variable bills. Past spending is useful context, but it cannot confirm that a future transfer is affordable.
This calculator is separate from your Loaf account. It does not save a goal or set up transfers. If you schedule a transfer with your bank, check the timing against your bills and payday.
